In one sentence

Tapback is a free Apple Watch meditation timer that taps your wrist at a rhythm you choose, turning each tap into a quiet cue to notice your mind has wandered and come back to the breath.

In one paragraph

Any timer can tell you when a sit is over — Tapback helps while you’re in it. Gentle haptic taps on the wrist, anywhere from every ten seconds to once a minute (or at the halfway point, thirds or quarters of the sit), act as silent focus reminders: each one is a cue to notice where your attention went and return to the breath. There are no guided voices, no content library, no accounts and no subscriptions — the app is free, collects no data, and saves every session to Apple Health as mindful minutes. It runs entirely on the Apple Watch, made by Hyper Inc Ltd., a one-person studio in London.

Why it exists

Meditation apps have become content businesses — libraries of guided audio behind a subscription. Tapback goes the other way: it borrows the interval bell from traditional silent practice, where a periodic chime marks time and re-anchors attention, and moves it to the wrist as a haptic nobody else can hear. The timer stays out of the way; the taps do the teaching.

Key features

  • Gentle haptic taps during the sit, each one a cue to notice the mind has wandered and return to the breath
  • Taps on a fixed rhythm (every 10 seconds up to once a minute) or tied to the sit — halfway, thirds or quarters
  • Three tap styles, so the reminder cuts through without jolting you
  • Rollover mode keeps a session going past the target for open-ended sits
  • Every session saved to Apple Health as mindful minutes
  • No guided voices, no content library, no streaks — just the timer
